Venture FarmVenture farm is situated on the West Pennine Moors, near Oswaldtwistle, eight miles from Blackburn. Features The property is a recently converted farmhouse with modern outbuildings. We will be using the location to provide a variety of outdoor activities including; walking, cycling, running, field trips, canoeing and camping. We also have an outdoor sports area, which with a rubberised surface this can be used for various sports such as football, tennis and basketball. The modern outbuildings will provide various individual areas, which are being used to meet a wide variety of needs for each young person. The education room is an area out of the house where residents can access a tutor and education material until a suitable educational placement is found. The recreation room is equipped with a pool table, a table tennis table, multi gym and a large punch bag. This is mainly used during the evening as one of many options for activities at Venture Farm. The garage area has a car pit, which can be used for car/motorbike maintenance. Also within the garage is a storage area for some activity equipment including canoes, mountain bikes, BMX's and fishing equipment. The meeting room and managers office area is used for staff meetings, reviews and staff training. The final area is going to be a woodwork room with equipment for the construction of items such as garden benches, planters and other wooden structures as desired. Life at Venture Farm is aimed towards occupying the young boys through experimentation and education in life experiences of sharing, progressing and succeeding, enabling all to achieve their potential. The home comprises of a fully fitted kitchen, dining area, which is complemented with a T.V and video, a utility room comprising a washer dryer machine and a freezer. The entrance hall houses the resident's pay phone and a notice board which gives up to date information and all relevant phone numbers. The general office is situated at the rear of the utility room and the adult's bathroom is adjacent to this office. The communal lounge is Aesthetically pleasing and comfortable and is equipped with a television, video and a DVD. Bedrooms Bedrooms are of single occupancy, some with wash facilities. All have comfortable furnishings. All rooms have a portable colour television and residents have the facility of booking the in-house video for their rooms. Each young person is able to personalise their own space with such things as posters, pictures and personal possessions. Residents can also choose the colour of their rooms. Care Services Venture Farm provides 52 week residential care for young males with challenging behaviour and or emotional/ behavioural difficulties. The young people within our care may well have been out of education for long periods of time and experienced multiple placement breakdowns over a short period of time. At Venture Farm we look to stabilise young people within our care by re introducing education into part of their daily routine and occupying their time positively through various activities we can provide. This we believe enables young people to build their self esteem and confidence which will assist them to deal with issues that will affect their future. Upon admission each young person is made an appointment with the local GP, Dentist and opticians. Education We believe in maintaining educational continuity in mainstream education wherever possible. However, where this is not possible or practical, we will endeavour to liaise with our contacts at local schools in securing local placements. We have links with the local education department and endeavour to get as much information as possible in order to quicken the education process; you can help by prompting this need with the child's local authority education department. In the event that a young person is unable to attend a local mainstream school, we are able to provide education on site in the form of in-house education. We can access a qualified teacher who will provide the young people with an educational timetable during normal school hours - combined with life skills, training and a self-development programme of care. Admissions Procedure Before we can invite someone to stay at Venture Farm, we obviously need to ascertain their background, previous experiences and immediate needs. In order for us to process this information quickly, we request that details are supplied to us using our official referral form. After initial contact, we would be pleased for the young person, their family and their social worker to visit us to assess our facilities and suitability. Admission is initially on a 3 month trial basis. This enables us to determine the effectiveness of our work with the young person and safeguards against disrupting the dynamics of our existing group.
