The CoppiceThe Coppice is located within a residential area of St. Annes close to the town centre. A youth club with leisure facilities operated by the Y.M.C.A. is just down the road. During the summer months in particular, staff and residents make use of all the facilities available at Blackpool, which is only a ten minute drive away. Features Like all of our properties, The Coppice is decorated to a standard which is conducive to maintaining a friendly and homely atmosphere. All residents are encouraged to be involved in the decisions regarding the decoration of the home in order to make it more child-friendly. The Coppice has a comfortable, communal lounge with television, DVD and video. In the second lounge, in addition to another TV and video, is a Playstation and computer karaoke machine. At the rear of the house we have a utility room containing two washing machines and a tumble drier. Residents are aided and assisted with the use of the laundry facility. At the back of the garden we have a garage. This has been converted into two rooms. One room is used as a classroom for the in-house education programme. The other room functions as a recreation room. As well as a pool table, musically gifted residents have access to two electric organs/keyboards and a violin. The Coppice operates a Close Circuit Television System. This monitors the front and rear of the property and has been installed to ensure that privacy, security and safety is maintained for our residents. Bedrooms Bedrooms are of single occupancy, some with wash facilities. All have comfortable furnishings. All rooms have a portable colour television and residents have the facility of booking the in-house video for their rooms. Each young person is able to personalise their own space with such things as posters, pictures and personal possessions. Residents can also choose the colour of their rooms. Care Services The Coppice cares for young people of both sexes between the ages of 10 and 18. At present we have 5 girls and 1 boy. The atmosphere that we aim to create and uphold in the home is one of caring, nurturing and of a happy nature. At The Coppice we believe that each young person needs a sense of routine and consistency in their lives and a caring system of support. Our aim is to encourage, develop and maintain pride, self discipline, self esteem and confidence and to help youngsters gain respect for themselves and others. To this end, we have a staff team who are committed to working with young people, to encourage them to express themselves freely and positively and to help aid and assist them to overcome previous traumas in their lives. The Coppice has a diverse and experienced staff team, led by the registered Manager and supported by the Trainee Manager. The team of R.S.W's have an annual training programme that they attend in conjunction with their NVQ 3 CCYP award. The Coppice also have 'waking-watch' staff on duty throughout the night, in addition to sleep-in staff. Admissions Procedure Before we can invite someone to stay at The Coppice, we obviously need to ascertain their background, previous experiences and immediate needs. In order for us to process this information quickly, we request that details are supplied to us using our official referral form. After initial contact, we would be pleased for the young person, their family and their social worker to visit us to assess our facilities and suitability. Admission is initially on a 3 month trial basis. This enables us to determine the effectiveness of our work with the young person and safeguards against disrupting the dynamics of our existing group.
